While some passengers are just happy to have a balcony or a window, cruise lines are increasingly catering to wealthy types who want to sail around the world in suites that offer levels of privacy and luxury normally found in a mansion or five-star hotel.
From an elegant penthouse with a shower that extends of the sea to the first ever in-room spa retreat, these are some of the most luxurious cruise ship suites in the world.

Crystal Penthouse, Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony
At 1,345 square feet, the Crystal Penthouse, available on the Serenity and Symphony ships, comes with a spacious living room

Crystal Cruises’ Crystal Penthouse, available on its Serenity and Symphony ships, comes with perks that the average passenger could only dream of.
At 1,345 square feet, the suite has a master bedroom, veranda, living room, dining area and master bathroom with a TV, heated floor, Duravit spa flotation tub looking out over the ocean and a shower with a heated bench.
Butlers are on call 24 hours a day and the occupants are treated to afternoon tea and pre-dinner cocktails and canapes in their suite every day.
They can also dine in private should they choose to avoid other passengers.
Other perks include a welcome bottle of Cristal Champagne, complimentary drinks, garment pressing, unlimited Wi-Fi and internet access, and a private bridge tour.

New this spring, Royal Caribbean is offering its Royal Suite Class and butlers called 'royal genies', who can unpack or pack luggage and organise every aspect of a passenger's cruise.

Renderings of the 3,875-square foot suite, located on deck 14, promise floor-to-ceiling windows in the master bedroom, a spacious living room with a custom Steinway Arabesque piano by famed designer Dakota Jackson, black marble bar and dining area, an enormous master bathroom and the first in-room spa retreat at sea.
Passengers can enjoy unobstructed 270-degree views of the sea from a glass enclosed sitting area, called the Vista Garden, over the ship's bow.
The Regent Suite will have the feel of a Park Avenue apartment thanks to its marble floors, exotic woods, handcrafted furnishings and chandeliers.
From £35,289 per person based on the inaugural 14-night voyage from Haifa to Rome on 2 November.
